Thermo-mechanical behaviour of flax/green epoxy composites: Evaluation of thermal expansion coefficients and application to internal stress calculation

This work aims at evaluating the coefficients of linear thermal expansion (CLTE) flax/green epoxy unidirectional composites and CLTE flax fibre. required using high precision measuring instrument to experimentally evaluate with various fibre contents. The were first estimated an inverse approach two micromechanical models. From longitudinal transverse CLTE, internal stresses symmetric antisymmetric laminates, due temperature variation, then predicted by a 2D analytical model based on classical laminate theory. results showed that was positive 75 ± 5 × 10−6 /K whereas negative equal -1.2 0.1 /K, highlighting anisotropy fibres. stress analysis in laminates stacking sequence had significant effect stresses, whatever variation. Regarding layers, choosing cross-ply more interesting than one for minimising stresses. normal reached their maximum absolute values shear occurred [0/60]s [0/60/0/60] stacking. study highlighted importance optimised sequence, such as 0/30° oriented relevant curing cycle prior manufacturing process, order obtain low
